How to recover photos my SD HC memory card?

Ajam

When I try to access the memory card, it asked me to format the card.
You know I won't because there's a lot of great shots in it as it from my nikon D90.
How can I retrieve all photos from the card? What tools can I use to recover those photos?

From time to time, may people run into this problem.

While there are some "free" programs that claim to be able to recover most of your images, spending $35 on a commercial image recovery program makes more sense.

You can eliminate this problem by always, at the end of your shooting day, copying all your image files to your computer using a card reader and then once you know they are safely on the computer, formatting the memory card using the format feature on your camera. This frequent formatting will go a long way to prevent future card corruption. That and carrying a second formatted card with you so you are NOT tempted to delete images from the card to make more room.

You can try these freeware memory card recovery software. You may need to use a card reader with these programs:

This program has worked for me. Download the program http://www.recuva.com/...recuva.com? You must not take anymore pictures on your card. You have to use a card reader either on your computer or an external USB card reader. Put the card in the card reader, open the recuva program, the welcome to the recuva wizard will open, click on next.next box, choose 'pictures', click on next, next box choose 'on my media card' click next. See the words 'enable deep scan' click on start. Wait, for it to do it's magic.

You need to use a card reader either one already in your computer (some have one, some don't). Or buy an external USB card reader. They are around 10.00 and can be found at walmart, bestbuy, frys, probably target.
The problem with built in card readers is that they will usually only read up to a 2G card.

I was not able to recover photos by hooking the camera up to the pc with the usb cord, it just won't work.

This is the important part. Choose the pics you want to recover, then choose recover, a box comes up asking where you want to save to. Choose documents/my pictures or wherever you want to save your pictures too. The pictures ONLY save to your pc and not the card.

Format your card in the camera after you have retrieved your photos and backed them up to an external source.

People often feel panic when I see this. If I format the drive, will I lose all my data? If not, how could I get access to my files?

My take is that you may have to format the card and then use recovery software to recover your files.

Here's some information about file recovery, think you need to take a look, very useful
