How to edit pictures from my Nikon D3100?

I have a D3100 that i just recently acquired. I've always been a point and shoot camera person. Well I finally got around and bought my first SLR camera. Let me tell you, I love this freaking thing. Even though I've only had it for a couple weeks, i take so many pictures of anything I see. Most of them come out really bad because I'm new to all this, but some come out good. I know I just need more time, and practice.
Anyways, now that at least some pictures are coming out good, I've been wanting to learn how to edit them. I recently got photoshop cs5, for my birthday, and even though i've used cs3 and cs4 before, i'm still pretty new to photoshop. I use to edit things to change them drastically, even though they weren't any good or anything. Now i want to learn how to edit my pictures. I mean edit them in a way of changing lighting, and stuff like that. Not altering them in such a way that they don't resemble the original…
If anyone has a link to a site, that'd be awesome. In the mean time i'll keep trying youtube.
thanks.

Added (1). Thank you for the books selina.
yes that's what i meant, i know it'll take time, just like i stated on the question…
just looking for tutorials to get me started, if there's a cool site that you think is great, that'd be good enough.
I'm looking for something i can learn over a period of time, not in one night.

There's no magical answer - YOU have to make the effort to learn, study, practice.
Photoshop is huge and has a huge learning curve.

Thankfully, there are countless resources available to us.

Go to your local library and look for Scott Kelby books.

Read the help files and tutorials you can access from Photoshop - that alone will keep you busy for months.

I know it feels overwhelming, but you just have to plod through it… One baby step at a time.
