How to change the shutter speed on a Nikon D3200?

Is there any way you can change the shutter speed using any of the buttons that are on the camera, or do you have to go to settings to change it, if you can.

What does the manual say?

Put it in Tv or Shutter priority and you can change the shutter speed using the "thumb" command dial on the top right at the back of the camera
