How to install/setup a Nikon D70 external flash?

So i bought an external flash for my D70 on ebay (brand is Seagull SG-100), but of course i bought it from China and the instructions are in Chinese LOL! I tightened it in on top of the camera where its supposed to go, but when i take a picture, the camera's internal flash cap keeps popping up half way and flashing, and the external flash won't flash. I'm deffinetely a begginer with photography, so please be as specific as possible, thanks in advance for any help!

You bought a flash unit for a film camera with a hot shoe. Attaching it to a D70 could burn up the electronics in your camera and void the warranty.

You may have some luck with a slave shoe built for a D70. But please don't fry your camera like I did.

I don't think your going to burn up your camera. First thing is to dis-able the auto pop up, this will be in your menu, check your camera manual. Your camera doesn't know you have the flash connected as there are no other contacts on the flash other than the trigger contacts.

The next problem you face is that there's no control of the flash, it just flashes at full power.

Sorry to say you have wasted whatever you paid for it.

There are useful cheap flash from China out there look up Yongnuo, these are manual only flash, everything is manual including Manual Mode on your camera you can alter the output on these flashguns. This actually has advantages see this site.
