How to adjust the White Balance on my Nikon D5000?

I was just reading in an Exposure book about White Balance, but the book didn't actually say how to change it. So where on my camera can I adjust the White Balance? I have the Nikon D5000, if that helps at all.
I'm a beginner Photographer, and i'm still trying to grasp all the settings and terms, so if you can make it as simple as possible that would be great!

Suggest you look in your manual that you have with the camera - under White Balance.

If you don't have a manual, you can download it here;

Page 96 in your manual explains it with pictures and words. This is cross referenced in manual index.

And while we're on the manual… Also read the bit about sooting a custom whitebalance.

Don't adjust it on the camera, do it in software.

Set your camera to shoot using RAW (rather than JPEG) and adjust it in software afterwards using the RAW conversion software that came with your camera. If you can grasp how to process RAW files, then you'll never need to set the white balance on your dSLR.

RAW gives your complete control over your images, you edit them for white balance, sharpness, exposure and noise etc., and then save them as JPEG.

Adjusting white balance on a dSLR is old and not necessary when shooting RAW.
