Hi. I have taken some photos of various small items using a photo lighting kit which consists for 2 daylight lamps, (30 watts) & a 50x120mm opaque which acrylic shooting surface. I have used my Nikon D7000 slr with a Nikon 24-70mm lens. Now which setting do I set the camera at to get a perfect white background & a true color of the actual object. I have manged to get a pure white background, but my objects have a blue tint. Can anyone please help.

You can do this with ANY fully adjustable camera

The key is to light the background at least a half stop hotter than the subject

i use two 750 watt lamps and a light tent when I'm shooting products on a white background. The tent diffuses the light and prevents unwanted reflections of the camera and studio in anything shiny.

The blue tint shows that your white balance is not set correctly.

When I shoot products, colour is a very important attribute, so I use a Xrite Colorchecker Passport to set a custom white balance and I shoot in RAW.

You just need more experience using artificial lighting.

You need to set a preset white balance. Here's how:

1- Make sure your camera is in M, S, P or A mode.

2- Select PRE in White Balance modes.(to do this, press down the WB button and rotate the command dial and release to choose a setting)

3- After you release the WB button, immediately press it again. You should see "PRE" warning flashing in the viewfinder and the LCD panel.

4- Release the WB button again. Take a picture of the white background. Make sure the white background covers the whole frame and nothing else. Also, make sure the exposure is set correctly.

There! You just created a preset. You can also change your older photos' white balance to match this one.
