How to save up for a new DSLR? - 1
I'm thirteen years old. I have a Nikon P80 right now but I really want to upgrade. My Dad just bought me a new MacBook so I won't be getting any help from my parents. The camera I want is the Nikon D5100.So far I have 200 dollars saved up plus I have -iPod Nano 4th Gen | Nikon P80 | Samsung SL30- that I could trade in. That totals up to ~140.00.So my total savings is 340 dollars. It costs 650. I mow the lawn and get 80 dollars a month. I still need money. How can I get it?
Do photoshoots and charge $20 ( i'm assuming with the p80 that the photos aren't worth too much more than that)
you could do couple photos, family photos, best friend photos, ect.
Do more chores. See if you can mow the neighbor's lawn, walk dogs… For your birthday and Christmas ask for cash or an American Express gift card so you can pool all of them together. If your grandparents ask your parents for gift advice, ask your parents to pass on the same request. Maybe you can negotiate cash rewards for really good grades. You can also look on eBay or at KEH to get a used dSLR or one model down from what you want and save some more money.
Save up your christmas and birthday money… And do chores. And get pocket-money (allowance)… Offer to help neighbours, family, local groups…
or whinge and whine and hope someone will buy you one to keep you quiet…
What's the rush? Keep doing what you're doing.
Now let me ask you a question. What is lacking in your P80 that you expect will be corrected in a D5100? If you can't give a detailed, photographically and technically correct answer to this question, then your photography will improve much more by gaining more experience and learning more about the technical and artistic side of photography. With a new camera, it will still be the same person pressing the shutter release.
