If some how, I dropped my nikon d5100 in fresh water, how could I save it? Would submerging it in alcohol work? How about putting it in an oven at low temperature?

Put it in a bag of rice.

asians will be attracted to the rice and mend your camera.

It has to go immediately to a repair shop before too much damage is done

As soon as you recovered if from the water, you needed to remove the battery and memory card and NOT try to turn it on… Let the repair shop do its work and then test it.

If you try turning it on while it is still wet inside, the electronic circuits will most probably short out and at that point, you camera is toast

If I dropped my Nikon D90 into water, I would immediately remove the battery and memory card. Dry it off with a towel. Put it in a plastic bag and cover it with uncooked rice. Let it sit for a few days (2-7), take it out, remove any dust, put the battery and memory card back in, make a prayer to my favorite camera god, and turn it on. If it works, fine. If not, I'd start the Nikon repair shop process.

If it was fully immersed, it's probably done for.

It's going to have to be disassembled and dried out - the sooner the better.

One simple and very quick answer is You Don't. It's Not A Do It Yourself Project. Trying to fix the camera on your own especially to the questions that you asked would only make it worse then better.
The only solution is to send the camera to Nikon for repairs and the repairs won't be cheap many times the cost would be greater than what the camera is really worth. Plus camera repair shops seen this way too often.
