How to get my laptop to read my nikon d40?

Recently rebooted it back to factory settings and now it won't read my camera.

Update your usb drivers, it should read it. What O. S. Are you using? If you take or transfer a lot of pics, it's much faster to use a card reader. When you use a card reader the Cam doesn't process the pics as you transfer. This saves the cam battery and really speeds up the transfer. If updating the usb driver doesn't work install the Nikon software, or visit the Nikon site, and they should have the driver for your cam and Operating System.

this software is for newer O. S, if you have Windows 2000 or older chose the other transfer download.

view NX would be the dowload you want, contains the transfer software too.

PS reading the card directly is still faster ;-)
