Would it be ideal to get a Nikon d3100? I was about to buy a Pentax k-x and i wanna give it a second thought. I'm a beginner. Which cam would be more ideal for me?

thanks!

by the way thank you for those who answered my previous question re Pentax K-x.

I'm a beginner photographer and I have the Nikon D3100.It is an overall awesome camera. It is very reliable, has a number of great features, it is durable and has an excellent battery life. Also, it has a movie mode which takes video in full 1080i HD. If you want my opinion, go with the Nikon. You'll be very impressed with it.

It's just a personal preference…

Here's an idea: Go down to an electronics store, like Best Buy, and play around with them. See which one fits your hands better/ features you like best.

Actually the Nikon D3100 can shoot video in 1080p.

The reason to look closer at the Nikon has more to do with the availability of more lenses and the fact that the Nikon system includes full frame cameras if you should ever want to go there

Great thread (pretty recent, too) in the link below.

I just researched a similar question and ended up buying the 3100 for an overseas trip.

What put me over the top was the video capability. Several other models seemed to have an edge on pure picture quality, but I really wanted the video availability as I do not have a separate video cam and don't want to lug one.

Pics from my trip came out great and I found the 3100 easy to use after one time through the manual. It's a hard decision knowing that digital cameras, like all consumer electronics products, will get surpassed in technology every so many months/years. But I thought the 3100 is pretty new in the cycle.

Also, have seen some great deals lately combining the 3100 camera with regular lens with Zoom lens and camera bag (recently in Costco).
