Help on camera lenses? (NIKON)?
I have a Nikon D3100 which is a DX Format camera, i wanted to know if a Nikkor 50mm lens would work on it or any other DX camera? Or i need to upgrade to an fx camera?
With a few exceptions, your camera will take any F mount lens Nikon makes, and certainly any modern lenses. Your manual will contain a chart of what works and what does not. Unless that is an original 50mm from 1960 or so, it will work on the camera, just no autofocus.
Look for the AF-S 50 mm f/1.8
It is a fine, affordable lens that will auto-focus with your lens.
ANY Nikkor AF-S lens, whether it is DX or FX will work with your camera.
If you look at the Nikon website, you will see that all 50 mm Nikkor lenses are capable of being used with FX cameras, so they will certainly work just fine on your DX camera. The same is true with the 60 mm f/2.8 macro lens.
