Help Comparing Cameras? - 1

I've been looking at cameras for awhile and finally have narrowed it down to two. I'm not sure which one will be right for me, they are both similar and have different features that I like. Truth be told though I really don't know that much about cameras and that's why I'd like some help. I plan on using the camera mostly for landscapes, pictures of family and friends, pictures of cities (my school's taking a trip to Europe so I want a lot of good pictures), also possibly making a video or two. Thank you so much to any one who helps me out! Xx.

Myself, I'd go with the D5100. I like the flip out LCD screen. I have the D5000. The screen can also be flipped inwards which will protect it when you carry it around.
The D3200 is a newer release, and also a great camera.

I would buy the D3200. Both D3200 and D5100 (as well as the D5200) are entry level cameras, and the D5100 is not going to get you much more than the D3200. You are spending more money with a D5100/D5200, yet you still have an entry level camera.

To advance the features over the D3200, you would have to go with a D7000 or D7100.

Personally, I dislike the rotating LCD screen, as do most serous DSLR owners (which is why Nikon and Canon only produce 1 camera with this feature). To me, it is compact camera technology brought to DSLRs.

But others like using them, so unless you have a real need for the flip out LCD, you will be better off with the D3200 in my view.

I picked up the Nikon D5100 for a great price last week, I've been interested in photography for over 30 years, you really can't lose with either camera as they are both pretty decent.

I always advise to pop into a local specialist store to 'handle' the products before parting with your hard earned cash, let's you see if the cameras a good fit and comfortable in your hands, that might sound a bit off, it's true though, some cameras just don't feel right.

Don't fall for the highest megapixel 'propaganda' buy the camera with the specification that matches your needs - there's plenty on the D5100 to grow into and the same is probably true of the D3200.

Whatever you decide… Enjoy!
