FX Lens on a DX body?

I have a Nikon D3100. I'm thinking of buying the Nikon 50mm f/1.8G but it's an FX lens. I know that there are disadvantages if you put a DX lens on a FX body but are there any disadvantages of putting a FX lens on a DX body? If so, what are they?

FX lenses will work just like dx lenses on dx cameras

dx lenses, however, will only partially fill the fx camera's sensor, resulting in dark corners

in other words, no problems.

It will work fine.

Essentially the difference between a DX and FX lens is that in the case of the DX lens, the unused larger diameter area of the lens is removed, resulting in a smaller diameter lens.

In other words, the lens is cropped.

You can use FX lenses on a DX body, but not DX lenses on an FX body as the lens is too small.

So go get that 50mm f/1.8G as it is excellent!

I think if you had thought about it, you would have figured out that an FX lens will work perfectly fine with your excellent D3100. Actually you should see an improvement in sharpness if you look closely using Photoshop CS5 and shoot in the RAW mode

What you need to do, is be sure that you buy AF-S lenses, the most recent lenses that are the fastest auto-focus lenses made for Nikon cameras

The only lenses that can be a problem are Canon EF-S lenses that Can't be used on full frame cameras like the Canon EOS 35 mm, 5D or 1D cameras. Those lenses will damage the mirrors the listed Canon EOS cameras and the mirror will damage the rear elements of the Canon EF-S lenses

Nikon has NO such issues
