For a football game, what kind of camera lens would be best?

I'm taking pictures at my Homecoming here pretty soon, and a friend told me about a website that you can rent lenses from. I need a lens for the game, really badly. I have an 18-55mm/f3.5-6G VR already. The pictures are for yearbook, so I need them to be really good. Any help?
I have a Nikon D3000.

If you are shooting under the lights then the 70-200 f/2.8. If it's in the full light of day you can get away with something less than the f/2.8. I'd love to play with the Nikon 80-400 or the sigma 50-500. There are a lot of rentals out there. Look for the best price

If you're going to be near the side a 55-200mm range will be fine, if the ambient light is low you will need to get a lens with a big aperture number such as f/2, 8 like the 70-200 vr, those lens cost allot of money.

If you are going to be far from the side you will need at least 400mm range and if the ambient light is low you won't have much luck, you'll need a lens like the 400mm 2.8 the lens is worth $9400.

If you're far from the side & the ambient light is good a Nikon 80-400 can be good enough.

Like other mention, rental may be a solution but you'll need enough money to cover the deposit.
