I need some tips for my first time photo shoot. I will be doing a friends engagement photos. We will be doing them outside in the snow. I will be using my nikon d3000 and my lenses are a 50mm, 18-55mm and a 55-200mm. I don't have any other accessories.

Make sure the exposure is correct, the metering system of all cameras take reflected light readings, they just measure the scene, find the middle tone and alter the exposure to make that 18% grey (a mid grey), the problem is when most of the scene is light like snow your camera will make the light toned snow average grey. It will under-expose, set your EV compensation to around +1 to compensate.

Shoot Raw then you have a wider range of exposures that can be recovered. It just increases your success rate.

I'd rent a flash (around 8$ for one day / weekend) and maybe a gary fong lightsphere. You want something to use for a fill flash and you don;t want to fight with your pop up flash during the shoot.

Have an alternate location in mind (also call to see if there are any charges and the likes) in case the weather does not cooperate.

Keep in mind that your gear is NOT weather proof so have a soft cloth on hand to gently wipe your gear.

Do NOT change lenses outdoors if it's snowing. Last thing you want is water INSIDE your camera body.

You'll need to shoot in manual mode (you shoul dbe doing that regardless anyways) … Your camera might get confused because of all the bright white snow.

Shoot in raw to help you recover slightly imperfect images (white balance a little off, adjusting exposure a little… )

Get some hunting mittens, the ones where the fingers are cut off and are covered with a folding mitten cover.

All you'll really need for this shoot, lens wise, is your 50mm f1, 8 (I assume that's what you 50mm is), If you had a 24-70 f2.8, I would of suggested that instead but out of your 3 lenses, the 50mm will be the most useful.
