I have the NIKON 3100 you mentioned I love it its easy to use produces quality pictures I'm a freelance published photographer and its great for every kind of picture from snap shots to amazing well detailed landscape photos plus it has video function and long lasting battery. I would recommend 100%

Between those two, it's personal preference. Get whichever one you like best. Try both of them out at a nearby camera/electronic store and see which one is more comfortable to use. You can't go wrong with either one though.

However, since your current camera is a Nikon, you might find it easier to stick with Nikon for the familiarity of the menu layout.
