Entry level DSLR? Surely not

So, as I said yesterday, my Olympus sp800 has lost its focus after only a few months, and I'm now looking to exchange it for something decent. After looking around yesterday and today I'm torn between the: Nikon D3100 and Canon 1100d, obviously I'm still learning but I want a camera that is relatively cheap and that I will still be using in a few years. The camera's seem to be similar but I just don't know which one will be a "better" buy. Any thoughts?

Between the two, it is really six of one, half a dozen of the other. They are so close on specs and capabilities that it really falls to your preferences. If you can find a store with both in stock, play with them both. Decide which one feels better in your hand. And then buy that one.

You're comparing apples to apples so there's no "better". The only better will the comfort of the camera to you and your skills with it… So pick one already.
