DSLR Cleaning and Calibration?

Tim

I brought my Nikon D60 in for repairs on the stock lens. The shop contacted me later and said that they found impact damage (I expected this). However, they want to do a calibration and cleaning for $120 CAD, and fix the lens for another $75 CAD. I've done a little research and it doesn't seem like the cleaning and calibration is worth it nor the lens (since I can get a new 18-55mm for only ~$89).

Is the cleaning and calibration worth it? I'm willing to write off the lens in favour of a new one.

The cleaning and calibraion of the camera is worth it. In a few years you can buy a newer entry level camera once you have masted using the D60 you have. If you have the budget, a new lens may be worth it.

The calibration is for the camera (I think) and cleaning for both (hopefully). You already knew the camera and lens was dropped. You should be thankful repairs didn't cost more than the camera and lens. Do you think you have any other choice?

Impact damage implies it was dropped. Calibration may or may not be needed. If you choose not to have it done you could face mysterious focus problems with this camera.

$120 does not buy a new body, I'd say go for it.
