Does the Nikon D3100 give bang for the buck?

I have decided on the D3100, and found it for $425 locally. Is it a good camera for the price? Would you recommend anything else over it?

It's a pretty decent camera. Would I recommend something else? Absolutely. The D5100 is quite an imporvement over the D3100. Compare here: http://snapsort.com/...ikon_D3100

Does that mean the D3100 is garbage? No. It's an amazing little camera for the price.

It's a fine starter cam. 425 is go good, I'd be suspicious.

I agree with Jeroen. B&H Photo is a reputable place and they are selling a new D3100 for $599.95 (and that is AFTER a $50 instant rebate). I would think that a $175-$225 savings means that it is either: 1) Used 2) Refurbished (even that would seem cheap) 3) Stolen

Unless I knew more about "that" camera, I would avoid it… Sometimes a "good deal" isn't always a deal.

But be careful with the seller at that price, seems too low, watch that they don't ripoff your credit card with a bait and switch.

And remember…
A camera is but a paint brush, it is more important who is holding the brush than which brush it is. All decent cameras can take wonderful pictures in the right hands. Spend your time studying great lighting and composition. And have fun with whichever brush you buy.
