Does anyone have the nikon d40 camera?
I was wonderingif this camera worked good i'm am starting in photography all i have is a point and shoot (elph camera) but it doesn't work that great i was wondering what camera would be a good choice? But i don't want to spend a lot of money
I have a D40X, which is very similar. It is certainly better than a compact (I also bought a range of Elphs/Powershot SDs for family), but a noticeable step down from the D70S and D200 I use at work.
Once you step into DSLR territory, the choice of lens becomes important. I could only afford the two kit lenses-which do admirable work, but perform better with other bodies. Having a decent flash head also helps-these usually have their own AF sensors and are much more versatile than the flip-up flash.
Still, a used D40 is about the cheapest way to have a DSLR.
Getting a book or class in photography will definitely make the purchase worthwhile (and may help explain why you're having trouble with the Elph). What's the use of having all the fancy controls if you don't understand what they do?
The D40 was / is a decent camera, but it's been discontinued. You may want to look at a D3100, or a D3000 if you can find one.
