D90 body vs d7000 kit?

I'm buying either a nikon d90 body with a 85mm 1.4 lens or the d7000 with the kit lens. Main purpose will be portraits. I want the best image quality I can get so I'm leaning twords the d90, but that brand new d7000 makes me stop and think.

The D90 with a fast prime of suitable focal length will give you much more bang for the buck for portraits than the D7000 with kit lens.
That being said… Why the 85mm/1.4? It's be a typical portrait lens on full frame or film, but on crop sensor digitals as both the D7000 and D90 the typical portrait range starts at 50mm, due to the crop factor. You can get the fine 50mm/1.4D or G for $800 less than the 85mm/1.4 costs.
So basically you can get the D7000 + 18-105VR kit lens + 50mm/1.4 for the same price as D90+85mm/1.4.
Or you could get the D90 + 50mm/1.4 + some other nice lens (e.g. 18-200VR)
Or D90 + 50mm/1.4 + 18-105VR kit lens + nice lighting equipment.
