D70 nikon flash sparking?

The flash pops up but sparks when I take a picture. Is there any way to get to the bulb without unscrewing it, because those are so small screws. XD
Added (1). I mean to say I think a wire is lose and it is sparking, not flashing. What's the easiest way to get to the bulb.

What you're referring to might be the auto-focus assist. Does the flash pop properly when you hit the shutter-release button fully?

It's meant to do that. In low light, the flash fires to assist the AF, it's perfectly normal.
Canon turn off this feature in, 'Creative modes,' M, A, S or P, so I'm assuming that Nikon would do much the same.

See if you have the flash set for red-eye mode. That gives you a "preflash" beforehand.

If you are getting actual sparks, then you have a broken connection in the flash head. Don't use the flash until you get it repaired.
