Nikon SLR Cameras

Throw some tips for learning to use dslr for filming?

I recently got a Nikon D3200 and was wondering if anyone knows some good resources to learn about how to use it, or if you think even just going outside and filming different things is a good way to learn too?

Surely some techniques or ideas might help though and give ideas what to try out with the camers.

Thanks

Added (1). Thanks for the answers. I guess I meant shooting, if not filming.

Learn to write scripts, make storyboards and assemble a shooting script.

You also need to learn how to light your scenes.

And finally, you need to learn to edit the video from the script.

Here are two reference books you will find helpful

"The Five C's of Cinematography" and "The Foley Grail"

These two books will get you started with two of the may fundamentals of video and film making

Hardware wise, you will need a sturdy tripod and fluid head as well as a fast computer (Intel i5 CPU or better) a lot of RAM (8 gb for starters) and a couple of 2-tb hard drives

Someone tell me how you FILM with a DIGITAL camera? You can shoot VIDEO, but you are not "filming".

The best way to learn about photography and videography is to practice. Look at other people's work, decide what you like and what you don't, and why, and this should give you some inspiration for things to try. Then the technical skills follow with practice.

@Steve P, I don't know where you're from, but in British English it's common to use the word "filming" for taking any kind of motion picture film or video.
