Compatible Micro Lens for Nikon D5000 Camera?
I need a micro/macro lens for my Nikon D5000 camera. I know there's a list of compatible lens in my manual but I was wondering if the AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G ED was compatible with my camera also. If not could someone please tell me a good micro/macro lens that is compatible with my camera and preferably $600 or less?
Any AF-S lens will work perfectly.
The 60mm/2.8 is a very good lens both for macro and for portraits. But you if you want to shoot insects, then you might find that you'll often scare them away as you need to get too close to them with this lens.
If that may be an issue, then it would be a good idea to get a longer macro lens, such as a 100mm one. This may be too long for many normal portraits, but still viable if you can take some steps back, or for candids.
It may be difficult to find a longer macro lens (other than Nikon's, which are beyond your price limit) that has an autofocus motor. For macro manual focus is recommended anyway, but it'll be nice to have for other applications. The Tamron 90mm/2.8 may be what you're looking for.

It's available with and without autofocus motor. You want the version with autofocus motor, so watch out.
