Canon T2i shutter speed?

Is it like the Nikon D3100's split-second shutter? Or is there a delay? I'm trying to decide between a T2i and D3100. I want one with a fast shutter speed.

I think you are talking about shutter lag. Yes, they are the same, just like any DSLR.

You really need to get your terms
What you are asking is which dSLR has the shortest shutter lag. Both are equal
Fast shutter speeds would be 1/4000th second, how long the shutter stays open during exposure.
Actually the T2i is closer to the Nikon D5100 when it comes to cost
What you need to be concerned about is the performance of the cameras sensors
Here is a link to that

As you can see, the D5100 sensor produced the best low light performance of the three

I'm guessing you're fed up with your old point-and-shooter's shutter lag. All dSLR's don't have it so whatever model you get, T2i, D3100 or the Pentax K-r, you are safe.
