Can i use an AE-1 lens on any nikon?

alistair
I know i won't be able to use the AF mode but can i buy an adapter for the AE-1 lens so that it fits onto a nikon d3100 or will this only work for a canon?

I doubt it. As far as I know you can use Nikon lenses on Canon bodies, as many photographers do, but it does not work the other way round.
It is something to do with the distance between the bayonet fitting and the focal plane which makes it pretty much impossible to use a Canon lens on a Nikon body.
