Any lens that says AF-S will work with your camera. The AF lenses will work, buy you won't have autofocus.

You've pretty much answered your question by saying that your gonna get the 18-55mm zoom lens. The cheapest non used decent lens for NIKON is the 35mm f1.8 DX, I find deals at £180 but never pay over £200 for this lens. They can range brand new from £180 to £6000 and above for 600mm f4 but these are pro spec lenses. I can bet you when you have mastered your 18-55 you will want a telephoto lens. You best beginner spec lens is the 70-300 at around £360-£500. There are many different lenses to choose from but they are pricey. Remember your body will be out if date and will need replacing when you feel you want to upgrade so really bodies get old every few years. My aunt has had her NIKON for 6 years! That's why you should buy good glass (lenses) because when you upgrade your body you have still got all your lenses and if it is good glass it will go from camera to camera and last for ever.

Hope this helps

You obviously have no idea what a digital Single Lens Reflex camera is. I forbid you to buy the D3100.It will only be a waste of money.

I highly recommend instead the Nikon P500. You will truly love this camera. With just a single lens, you can beat most other dSLRs with its long zoom range. In fact, it has the longest zoom range ever to date. Try looking it up at http://bhphotovideo.com/...ovideo.com.
