Buying a Nikon D90 where and what lense?

I want to purchase a nikon d90 as my first introduction into dslr's any tips as to where to buy and what to buy i.e lenses, main use is home portraits and major outdoor scenic with person but depth of field i.e person in sharp vision with background slightly blured…

Added (2). I was wonder what kit to get for the everday use and the one for mainly portraits.

You can get the D90 in two ways; the body only (and you get your own lens), or with a kit lens included.
If you buy it with the kit lens, it will come with a 18-105mm lens which is good enough to get you started.
If you don't want that lens, then buy the body and a Nikon 35mm f/1.8 or 50mm f/1.8. That would also be a good start but would not be a zoom lens.
But years ago, millions of people bought their first film SLR with a 50mm non-zoom lens. That was pretty much the norm 25 years ago.
