Built in flash broke?

I went to take a little test shot for some diffusers I made, and when I took the shot, I heard a crackling kind of sound. Then I could smell that something was wrong. It kind of smells like burnt plastic, but all I know it something wrong happened inside.
Anyone have any idea on what it is and what to do? I have a party tonight and I don't want to go camera-less.
I have a Nikon D3000 by the way, only around 10 months old.
Added (1). The flash actually still works, and the photos are fine. But I'm just worried about the smell coming from inside since I don't know what's happening in there.
Just to be safe, I don't want to take anymore photos in case something worse happens.

Nope, there's nothing you can do but have it repaired.
