Best NIKKOR lens for both potraits and landscape?
I have a d3100 with the kit 18-55mm. I'm looking for something that is good for taking photos of people and nature but preferably won't break the bank.
A lens for landscape is usually a wide angle lens and a wide angle lens is not good at all for portraits because of the distortion it causes and makes things look bigger and smaller. You a need a wide angle for landscape. Not sure abut nikon lenses but canon has a 10-22mm lens which is great for landscape. For portraits, you need a medium to telephoto lens probably a prime 50mm lens or 24-70mm but the 24-70mm is expensive. The new nikkor lens is 50mm f/1.8G which has the motor inside it and it costs about 200 dollars and it was released a few weeks ago.
Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8G…
but its a bit costly yeah…
Ok i didn't see the 'break the bank' thing… I thnik the 18-55mm is best for Landscape and overalls… For portraits get a 50mm… Or else even for day portraits 18-55mm is also fine…
Use the 18mm end of your 18-55mm lens for landscapes. Buy the new Nikon AF-S 50mm f1.8 for portraits although you could just use the 55mm end of your 18-55mm lens for portraits. The 50mm f1.8 might be a little sharper at f8 or f11 than the 55mm end of your zoom but you for sure will seldom if ever be able to tell the difference. Actually the only time you'll really appreciate the 50mm f1.8 is in low-light situations when you can't use a flash.
