I know there are many lenses for this camera, but i want them to be less than $550, i like quality photography but not having to pay so much for it and the type of photography i would enjoy are; landscape, portrait, marco (flowers, not bugs: P) street photography, long exposure, clouds. I'm not always traveling and i like to take pictures of family and have great but simple photography. I also like to take pictures from far and have a nice zoom lens.
if you want to see and understand more of what kind of photography i like, you can go to my flickr () or view my favorites as well: D

Tamron 18-270mm PZD <<< I LOVE this one, but i'm not sure if it's good for portraits, macro, landscape, and i've heard it doesn't work so well with nikon cameras: P

Thank you:3

Avoid wide range zooms, such as the Tamron 18 - 270mm in your list, they have so many compromises in their design they have all the image quality of a milk bottle! By and large prime lenses (lenses with no zoom) offer better image quality.

Any of the primes you list are good, but probably the best cheap zoom is the Sigma 70 - 300 f3.5 - f5.6 APO, cheaper than the Nikon 55 - 300mm which is a decent lens, but has the usual Nikon over-pricing.

This shot was taken using a Sigma 70mm - 300mm.

For portraiture on a camera with a cropped APS sensor any lens in the 50mm - 150mm range is good, a good lens is the good old 'nifty fifty' a wide aperture 50mm f1.4 or even f1.2, the wide aperture enables you to get those 'selective focus' shots where the subject is sharp, but the background blurred. It's a good lens for street photography too. 50mm is the widest angle lens that doesn't distort features too much when used close up.

Now, before I start, I'm no expert when it comes to technical stuff, but I love Photography too, I'd assume that I'm around the same age as you, and I'm also on Flickr (www.flickr.com/rachaelputt - if you're interested). Now, you're into a pretty broad range of styles right there, and unfortunately, the purpose of lenses are to adapt to different styles, and if there were one that could do everything, that'd be amazing - but unfortunately, there's not.So, I suppose the most diverse, I'd say, is the 50mm, I have one, and I'm able to capture images relatively close up, the portraits are beautiful, and the landscapes are great too! Basically, I'd look into each lens and see what suits you best, but I can promise you that you won't find a lens that is brilliant with both landscapes and macro, due to the focal lengths, etc! Good luck though, join me with the 50mm, they're awesome!

Your stream is typically teen. Some bokeh, lots of narrow focused closeups. So I'd say get an 18-105 as allround and either a 40mm or 60mm micro (make sure that for the 60 you get the AF-S lens, the oolder lens doesn't autofocus with a d3100) The 18-105 can do most things, the micro is for closeups, portraits and when you want to play with DoF.

Since you have the Nikon D3100 and it doesn't have a built in auto focus motor, you need an AF-S lens (unless you just want to manual focus all the time). So none of the lenses that end in "D" would work. The 50mm f/1.8D won't work with auto focus but they did come out with a better AF-S version of it. The Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.8G. It has better optics, built in auto focus motor, and it's still only $220. If you really NEED the far zoom, then you can also get the Nikon AF-S 55-500mm f/4-5.6 even though it's not gonna let in that much light, not a good depth of field, and only decent picture quality.
