Are 10000 shots made with a camera much?
A friend of mine is selling a camera (Nikon d60) and the shot counter is around 10000 frames. Is that much or it's somewhere in the middle. The price he's asking is not much and i would be interested. What would you say?
That's about 20% of what you can expect from a modern DSLR from any manufacturer. Still 80% to go.
Buy it.
I would say go for it and buy it
Even though the D60 is from before the era when Nikon released shutter expectation figures for the low end models I can assure you that this is not that much. At 10k you're sure that there's no quality control issues with this camera, they tend to show up in the first 1500 or so but you're also comfortably away from the 30000 where the first shutter failures tend to occur.
So, no it's not a number to keep you from buying provided the price is right and the camera has no known issues.
I believe the shutter is warrantied to 50, 000 shots, so you have along way to go. The shutter and mirror are the only moving parts in DSLR's so they tend to wear out first.
Also, if the shutter eventually wears out, it is not that expensive to repair/replace.
