Anyone with the Nikon D5000 camera?
I'm thinking about purchasing this camera today. I've done my research and it seems very nice. But before I but it I would like to get your point of view. So if you own one or know someone who owns one, what do you think of it?
Visit a camera store and look at the D5000 next to the D3100. The D3100 has all the features but for the articulated LCD and many more features the D5000 does not have… Like Full HD video (1080p) and the ability to auto-focus in the video mode
My buddy has one, very highquality pictures… Ifi were to get a high quality camera it would be thisone
In addition to the articulated screen of the D5000 the D3100 also lacks support for infrared remotes and an ISO display in the viewfinder. And frankly, the autofocus while recording video sucks unless one uses an external mic (which the D3100 does not support itself), as it's extremely noisy in the video.
So unless you want to do a lot of video with it, i'd prefer the D5000. Its sensor is marked higher by DXOmark as well.
I've had one for over a year now. No problems! But I don't shoot video! I've taken some very nice pictures with it.
But as I have learned more about manual shooting, I realized that for just a little more money I could have had the D90. Better resolution on the LCD, built in focusing motor, better viewfinder, top mounted display, and dual control wheels.
The built in focusing motor alone will save you the extra money, because of the many lens that will auto - focus on the D90 that won't auto - focus on the D5000.
Check out the specs. On Ken Rockwell's website. Amazon has it new for 1, 029.00 with a 18x105mm lens.
As fhotoace said go to a camera store where you can actually handle each model. Not Best Buy!
Then make up your mind. It is an investment you don't want to take lightly. Have Fun!
I've used it often and it's great. However, at the same price the Nikon D3100 is better.
