Any tips for shooting makeup pictures? On a nikon d5000?

Shooting portraits of makeup models is NOT camera dependent.
Just use the same lighting you would use when shooting fashion and use a medium telephoto lens

That's all!

1- make sure the models are comfortable - introduce yourself and people they are going to be working with that day
2- focus on the the models face - don't let backgrounds distract your viewer
3- keep lighting the same- no shadows on faces
4- look through some fashion mags and see what you think works and what doesn't
5- try using a zoom lens
6- spend the time setting up shots! You'll be happy you did
7- look at the some of the shots as you go- fix any technical problems ASAP- most things are more easily fixed on set rather than on photoshop
*best of luck and have fun
