Am I too young to buy this camera?

I want to start photography because it might be something I want to do as a proffession. I'm trying a lot of new things so I have a feel for different careers and hobbies. It is the nikon d3100 that I'm getting for my birthday. I'm 13 turning 14.Is this not really for my age or a beginner? I had experience with cameras before, but not

As long as you understand that to get the most out of a DSLR you will need to learn how to use the manual settings by either reading books and practicing, or taking a class, you are never too young. I would recommend that you buy a copy of "Understanding Exposure." It is cheap, short, easy to understand, and a must read for anyone starting out with a DSLR.

Congratulations on your new camera!

Provided you are serious about learning about photography. A DSLR can be used as a point and shoot, but it'll be a waste of money.

If you are prepared to put in some time & effort to learning about exposure, so you can really 'drive' the camera then it will be fine.

It's really just a question of your maturity in applying yourself to learning it, rather than age.

I teach at an after school photography club & we use D3100's - and the students include ones of your age.

My youngest son had his Nikon D50 when he was 11. His favorite lens is the 50mm f/1.8. I say you're already left behind!
