AF Minolta lens to Nikon adapter?
I have the Nikon D5000 camera.
I've just gotten a Minolta film camera, which has a Minolta 28 - 85mm AF lens.
I've tried finding an adapter so I can use it on my Nikon, but I haven't had any luck.
I'll give you the first search I did on eBay - there are 156 results. It may be that using an old Minolta lens isn't the first lens you would think of. EBay is PACKED with great lenses, from many old camera systems, which there are adaptors for, and these old lenses are very cheap, relative to their original sale price - so if you find a very good, fast zoom lens by a great maker, it could be virtually all you need with your flash new Nikon.

No. Not for Minolta AF, you see the Minolta AF mount was the first of the new generation lenses with greater amounts of electronic communications, as a result you wouldn't be able to control the aperture in the lens at all, which makes the lens pretty useless. Even worse because your D5000 has a crippled lens mount, it can't meter without being connected to a CPU, this means when using an adapted lens, you'd have to use a handheld meter, or meter with the histogram.
Furthermore because of the F-mount's old design, it's got a long registry and narrow throat, you have to mount the Minolta lens so far away from the sensor plane that the lens would be a very close focusing macro, or you'd need so much optics that the image quality is useless.
I'd rather sell the Minolta lens (which is compatible with Sony alpha cameras) on ebay or amazon marketplace, and buy a similar Nikon lens.
The Ebay link does not show any such adapter, just all the lens adapters available. None for Minolta A mount to Nikon F mount.
The Amazon link is for an adapter that will mount older Minolta manual lenses, commonly called MD or MC mount, which is incorrect, (it is SR mount) but that isn't the point. The adapter will not work for A mount lenses.
Nikon can be adapted to a lot of the old manual lenses, but none of the newer auto focus lenses. The AF lens mount all changed size, but Nikon didn't. That isn't a bad thing, as comparatively ancient Nikon lenses will still mount and work on modern bodies, unlike most other makers. Pentax is the only other maker with this sort of compatibility.
Your Minolta lens is not worth a fortune, but it will bring some money towards an actual Nikon lens. The 28-85 is one of the better "kit" lenses from the film age.
