Advice on best color film/ air travel with film?

I need some recommendations for a good color film. I've tried the basic kodak gold/fujicolor and it was just ehh. I'm going to be shooting nature/landscapes, from the window on an airplane, and some pictures of my cat. But mostly outside/airplane. I currently have been using Tri-X 400, but it is black and white.

Second, What is the best way to travel with film. I have flight from Pittsburgh to Chicago and would like to take film/film camerea with me as a carry on, along with my Nikon D3100 digital. Do I need any special bags and what are the procedures for going through security with it? I've flown hundreds of times but never with film. (When I was younger my mom would just put the film in our checked bags.

If you want things to pop a bit more, try a polarizing filter. That brings out the colors. As far as travel goes, unless you are taking lots of flights with the same film and it is fairly high ASA, don't worry about it. 2 trips through a scanner with 100 or 200 ASA film will not be an issue. If you are really worried about it, take the film out of the containers, store them all in one zip-lock bag, and request that the film be hand checked. Make up some story about how the film is from a scientific of high cost shoot and very important and can't be fogged at all.
