Hey i'm looking to buy an entry level DSLR in india and my budget is 40000 INR.
iv shortlisted 2 cameras viz CANON 600D and NIKON D3300.
now both are approximately the same price and in my budget.
Also, both cameras come with the standard 18 - 55 mm lens kit plus a 55 - 250 mm(or 55 - 200 mm in NIKON) lens

i'm thoroughly confused as to which one to go for as i'm a complete ammeture in this field.

any help is thoroughly appreciated

The Nikon has a long list of advantages.

But, if the Canon feels better in your hands, go for it, because really, either camera can get excellent results. What you do next is enroll in a photography course so that you can learn to use the camera of your choice properly.

The choice there's between an older and more practical camera (the Canon has a fully moveable LCD panel), and an up to date new Nikon with the latest sensor technology etc. You should compare Canon 600D with Nikon D5100. Canon 700D with Nikon 5300 etc.

Both will allow an amateur to take really nice photos. Perhaps think if someone in your family or group of friends already has that brand… Because then you could share accessories and expereince much more easily. Also, is there a local service point for that brand.

You need to continue your research.

* Spend some time on DP Review reading the professional reviews of those cameras
* Visit the DXOmark website and compare the sensor performance of those two cameras

It seems that you do not know that the Canon 600D is three years older than the Nikon D3300, so the Nikon has newer technology like built-in GPS, Wi-Fi and an interval timer so you can later shoot time lapse video

I'd take the Pentax K-500, and some would prefer the superior video of the Sony SLT A-58.

If you can only look at half the market and still can't make up your mind, you probably aren't ready for a DSLR. There are enough, 'Complete ammetures,' wandering around with Canon and Nikon DSLRs they haven't a clue how to use, without adding to their number.

Toss a coin and decide!
They are both very good and either will perform well.
You should look at the various features and decide which ones are most important to you. Then go for that one.

Look around you. What are most people using? Which of the two brands is more popular? If you want to be like everyone else, get that brand.

If not, get the Pentax K-50 in red and be proud to be different. This camera can be used right in the middle of the Holi festival. Just hose it down with clean water afterwards.
