Do warrantys cover droping camera on the ground?
I dropped my Nikon DSLR on the ground and it's in the 1 year warranty period. Is this covered? Can I get a new camera? I bought it locally at a store
Usually, warranties do not cover negligence.
No… Dropping it is considered abuse.
No, it is not covered.
No, that's what straps are for.
The one year manufacturers warranty covers any faults in the camera due to manufacturing (I.e. Camera stops working for no reason, the LCD screen stops working, buttons don't work, etc.)
accidental and purposeful damage is not covered, and for that, you would have needed to buy an external accidental damage warranty such as Best Buy's Black tie protection.
you will have to pay for damages out of pocket
now the question is why did you drop it. The first rule of photography is put the neckstrap on. Period. No exceptions. My former photography instructor would fail us for the day if we forgot to put the strap on. I stress the neckstrap because it can save you thousands upon thousands of dollars in the long run.
No way that is what insurance for, your house insurance may cover it
Warranties only cover defects in manufacture, not neglect.
Does your new car warranty cover you running into a tree? Same answer - no.
Let me ask you this question - Why would a Manufacture Warranty cover Abuse by the Consumer? So otherwise you're SOL. They Won't Cover Abuse cause by the consumer.
Best Buy sells and accidental damage plan. But if you didn't pay the extra $100 or so and heard those spesific words, then no, the normal factory warranty does not cover dropping it on the ground.
