Best digital camera to buy? - 1

I want to get more into photography. Not looking for anything too big or expensive, just a little digital camera to take some pictures on but something that takes decent quality photos lol. I know Nikon and canon make really good cameras. Any ideas?

Wanting nice shots is great, but without knowing your budget or what you want to shoot, no one can make any good recommendations.
