Suggest a good lens for my nikon D600?
I'm looking for one that is great for macro shots and portraits. I would like it to go to f/1.4 at least and make beautiful bokeh.
You won't get a macro lens at f1.4 - the widest they go is f2.8.
Good portrait lenses are the 85mm f1.4 or the 50mm f1.4. Good macro lenses are the 60mm f2.8 macro and the 105mm f2.8 macro.
If you want to combine a lens rather than buy two, then get the 60mm f2.8 macro. If you want a cheaper version, then Sigma do a 50mm f2.8 which I have - I use it for both macro work & portraits. The depth of field is shallow enough for me.
Here's a macro shot with it;
this is a portrait shot with it;
Tbh even if you have a f1.4 lens, the chances that you'll shoot it wide open are slim - the depth of field will be so shallow that when you shoot a portrait you'll be lucky to get the eyes & ears both in focus and also lens don't perform at their best wide open - the 'sweet spot' is usually stopped down a few stops.
