Can i use the Nikon 50mm 1.4d lens with my nikon D5300 camera body? Is it compatible?
I was planning to buy the Nikon 50mm 1.4d lens but someone told me i should confirm if my camera body has "in built motors" and hence if its compatible with my camera which is Nikon D5300or not?
Nikon lenses marked AF do not have focus motors in them - that means that in order to have autofocus, you'd need to have a focus motor in the body of your camera, and the D5300 doesn't. You can still use these lenses on your camera, but you'd have to manually focus them.
Nikon lenses marked AF-S have an inbuilt focus motor, so they can autofocus even on camera bodies that don't have a focus motor, like yours. The lens will fit but since your camera does not have a built-in AF motor and since that lens also does not have an AF motor, you won't be able to autofocus with them together. All other functions will work.
