Can I use a canon tilt shift lens on a nikon with an adapter? - 1

Added (1). I have noticed that the canon ts lenses are cheaper than nikon, I'm wondering if it is possible what adapter it would be. I appreciate it!

You can do it the other way around, but not a Canon lens on a Nikon body (assuming you're talking about current or near current models. The reason is that Nikon requires a longer back focal length than a canon lens can offer.

Also keep in mind that the Canon mount is significantly bigger than the Nikon mount - another fly in that ointment.

If you can find an adapter to do so.

The index of a Canon lens (distance of lens flange to film/sensor plane) is shorter than that of Nikon so unless there's an optical element incorporated in the adapter then focus to infinity would be impossible. That additional glass (if ever, neither Canon or Nikon makes adapters) is of very low optical quality dragging down the results of that very expensive tilt-shift-lens to the lowest of lows.

No, Canon lenses do not adapt to Nikon bodies (at least not very well). Have you looked at the 3rd party lenses? Rokinon and Samyang have $800 tilt-shift lenses that are made with the Nikon mount.

Short answer: No.

It is not possible to mount any lens made for Canon onto a Nikon. But you can mount Nikon lenses onto Canon bodies. So what's the problem? The problem is that the space between the lens mount and the sensor on Nikon bodies is longer than it is on Canon bodies. Therefore Canon lenses are designed to focus onto the sensor at a shorter distance. Since the Nikon sensor is further away, you wouldn't be able to focus a Canon lens on a Nikon body.

But since the Canon bodies are narrower than Nikon bodies, all you need to do to get Nikon lenses to fit onto Canon bodies is to use an adapter. The adapter adds more distance between the lens mount and the sensor. So using a Nikon to Canon adapter on a Canon body, the adapter increases the distance between lens mount and the sensor so that the lens can focus properly. This is why you can't use Canon lenses on Nikon bodies, but you can use Nikon lenses on Canon bodies.

For the same reason, you can use any lens by any brand on the Sony mirrorless cameras. These cameras are super thin relative to SLRs / DSLRs. So with the use of a lens adapter, the adapter is made thick enough so that the lens mount is exactly the distance it must be in order for the lens to focus properly.

No, no, and again no. Using any "other mount lens" on a modern DSLR by means of an adaptor is halfway to a recipe for disaster. Trying to use a tilt-shift lens with an adaptor would be most of the way towards a disaster, especially if that is a Canon lens to be used on a Nikon body - see the answer by Keerok for the technicalities.

Either: Take the hit of the higher price for the correct lens, or: buy a suitable camera body to take the lens you want to use.
