Can I put a Memory card adapter into my digital camera?

I just bought a Nikon digital camera. And I bought a 4gb micro memory card that did not come with an adapter for some reason. Well I ordered it from ebay. But anyway. I didint know a my digital camera would not need a micro memory card, it needs a much bigger one, like a standard size memory card fom what I saw online.since a memory card adapter is about the same size as a standard size memory card, I'm wondering if I can put the micro memory card inside the adapter and put it into the digital camera? Or I have to just buy a standard size memory card and spent my money on the micro memory card for no reason?

ps. I never buy normal size memory cards because i can use the micro memory card in my phone and the adapter in my camera and computer:-)

The adapter is not ABOUT the same size, as it would not work, would it? It is EXACTLY the right size.
