Camera control program?

So my teacher has a nikon camera and he uses a program called nikon camera control centre that allows the user to control the camera via the on-computer program

my problem is that i have a Canon so it doesn't work with me, can anyone tell me of a similar program that works with canon cameras?

I can't tell which Canon model you have but one of mine, the 500D, allows me to control the camera from my computer when they're tethered. I can also shoot and instantly view the shot via the screen.

If you have the Canon software installed on your computer and you have a camera model, say the
500D to the 600D, you should be able to tether.
