Buying a Nikon camera in France - warranty?
I live in England and I would like to buy a new camera on my year abroad in France, but I don't understand the warranty laws. If I buy it here in France and I have problems with it when I'm back in England, will I have to return to France to get it fixed? I'm going back to England in three weeks time so I'd only be buying it earlier so that I can take pictures of christmas here (it's pretty: D).
Also, is it generally a bad idea to buy in France? Is it more expensive etc?
The best place for those answers would be Canon UK. Give them a call at +44 (0)1737 220000
Always best to buy a camera in the country you live in. It's possible to get a " international warranty", but
it may not be worth the costs. 99% + of the time the camera will out-live the warranty anyway.
Usually the warranty is only good for the country it was bought in.
It's not a law. It's just a company policy. Nikon is stringent with distributor boundaries. All cameras would be original wherever you buy them. A Nikon camera from France wouldn't be accepted outright for servicing anywhere else in the world though. To make matters worse, even in France, that Nikon would only be accepted for repairs at the service center of the store you bought it from.
If you were thinking about international warranty, you'll have to pay for shipping your camera to their international service center which somehow is always off-shore. You may have to wait at least a couple of months before you hear from them again. Shipping back to you is free.
