Bring camera while snowboarding?

I'm going snowboarding and I want to bring my Nikon d5500. I've snowboard a couple times so I probably won't fall a lot but I'm still worried because I just bought the camera for my birthday. How do I reduse the risk of breaking it? I'm thinking of putting it in a small backpack but if I fall I feel like it would break because the backpack is small and thin.

Use a Pv cam

I won't do it. You won't fall alot but you will fall more than is good for the camera. All that impact will not be good for the camera and lense, add moisture and its a bad mix.
Use a compact point and shoot instead. They take falls better and landing on them is a lot less painful.
