Best SD card for a DSLR?
Buying a nikon d5200 and just wondering what the best SD card would be to buy. Heard a few things online of cards not truly keeping there transfer rates depending on the camera and that certain brands work much better than others. Need to shoot HD video what kinda of transfer rates should i be looking at? (Looking at 16gb and something that won't break the bank considering i need two of them.)
SanDisk Extreme, UHS-1 cards are good. You can get about 40 to 43 megabytes per second read speed when offloading images to your computer as long as you have a card reader which is USB 3 compatible and a USB 3 port on your computer. This is about 1.5 to 2x faster than non-UHS-1 cards. With todays larger file sizes, higher read speed is nice to have. 16GB cards are about $20 at B&H Photo.
You have paid £$£$£$£$ for a good camera. Without a memory card it is a useless lump of glass plastic and metal. Don't cut corners by buying cheap SD cards. Cheap ones fail losing all your photos/video or the plastic starts to disintegrate and jam up your SD slot (especially those really thin strips around the contacts).
Buy SanDisk Extreme Class 10 cards from a reputable supplier. There are large numbers of cheap fakes being sold on Ebay.
I speak from bitter experience!
