Best digital camera?

I was thinking of buying a proffesional camera but since the good ones are hard to use and really pricey i was wondering what's the best digital camera that takes great pictures (somewhat comparable to a proffesional camera). I was thinking of nikon 1 but people say its terrible. Any suggestions?
