Are there going to be any compatible fisheyes for the PXW-X180 when it comes out?
I'm looking into a new camera for my friend and he shoots action sports. A fisheye is hands down a necessity for the camera he buys. Is there going to be a high quality fisheye for this camera when it comes out? Should he consider just buying a DSLR and a good fisheye for that camera?
If Nikon and Canon cameras were not the best cameras for shooting action and sports, do you think that the professionals would still use them?
For under $480, your friend can buy a Nikon D3200 with 18-55 mm lens. There are 8 mm fisheye lenses available for under $300 on Amazon.
Most professional sports are played either indoors or at night. It is therefore important that the camera being used does not block any of the light coming from the f/2.8 lens from the sensor.
Cameras with a semi-transparent membrane (replacing the mirror) eat some light. Electronic viewfinders delay the view the photographers sees in them, so shooting at the peak of action is not really possible, so there are many missed shots.
As has been said, a dslr is not ideal for sports. Perhaps a good question to ask would be why do you need a fisheye lens for sports? I think the pxw-x180 is going to be a great camera for sports… A fisheye though would only be used sparingly for creative shots so I would think a separate dslr for that type if work may be appropriate.
The Sony accessories do not include a fisheye lens.

This camera is much better suited to action sports than any DSLR.
